Breeding conditions:
|
| After peak in 1994, Siberian Lemmings and Narrow-skulled Voles had average numbers in the southern part of Kamennaya Edoma Island in the delta, where buzzards bred, and brought rodents to nests with chicks. In Sukharnaya R. valley on the mainland rodents were not observed, and Snowy Owls did not breed, unlike previous year. Two pairs of buzzards, nesting hear, were, probably, feeding on young hares and ground squirrels. Ruffs, Temminck's Stints, and Pectoral Sandpipers nested near Sukharnaya R. mouth. In Kabachkovaya R. valley Siberian Lemmings were relatively abundant which allowed breeding there of buzzards, Long-tailed Skuas, and Short-eared Owls, feeding on young Siberian Lemmings. Breeding Northern Shrikes concentrated in the valley (1 pair per 1-2 km of forest edge), where they also caught young Siberian Lemmings. Every 500-800 m in the valley nesting pairs of Whimbrels reside.
